Thanks for your interest in The Emerson Theater. These rules are for ALL LOCAL shows - promoter booked and national acts are handled differently.
So you have a band and you want to play here. Well I have good news for you, there is a simple path...
Here's how it works:
I will book any ALL ORIGINAL LOCAL band who is willing to promote themselves. In the big city venues, presales are a requirement and bands must PUT MONEY DOWN on tickets for gigs in cities like New York or LA. Bands in those places must sell a certain number of tickets and pay for the ones they don't sell. It can be a hard experience, especially if you can't afford to cover the cost of the unsold tickets.
Here at the Emerson, we do it a little differently.
We now have THREE different options for those of you who wish to play. They are ordered by risk/reward, with the first being the lowest risk and lowest reward and the third being the highest risk and highest reward.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE VOUCHER PROGRAM HAS BEEN
When your band is booked, I will ask you to come and collect a certain amount of presale tickets (minimum of 20, max of 75 - if you sell all those and need more, then you can get them). You sell them for $8 a piece, which is $1 off day of show door price (typically). When you arrive at the venue on day of show, you pay me for all the tickets you've sold and return ALL unsold tickets.
THEN I PAY YOU. If you sell more than 10 tickets, for each ticket you've sold beyond 10, I will pay you $2. If you sell 50, you get $80.
BE AWARE THAT THIS IS AN ADDENDUM TO THE TRADITIONAL PRESALE RULE
OPTION TWO - PRESALE, BIGGER PAYOFF:
This option is similar to option one except that you get nothing for your first 20 tickets. However, from 20-40, you get $3 per ticket. From 40-100 you get $4 per ticket. This is for bands that are willing to sell more tickets. 50 tickets sold will earn you $100. 100 tickets sold will earn you $300
Another VERY important thing: You will only owe me for unsold tickets if you do not return them to me. It is very important that you understand that unreturned tickets will be to you at FULL FACE VALUE. Be very careful and return every unsold ticket to me at load-in.
If you lose them, let me know ASAP, we may
be able to work something out. ALL TICKETS ARE MARKED. I can reject lost
tickets at the door. DO NOT come to me on day of show expecting
forgiveness if you lost half your tickets and sold half of them. I can
re-issue tickets with a different marking and you can give the NEW
updated tickets to the people you've already sold to. This works best if
you inform me as soon as you know you've lost the tickets. Also, you
will be charged $0.06 for each lost ticket (yes, that's six cents).
OPTION THREE - TICKET PRE-BUY:
This option allows you to make the most money. You can purchase presale tickets (minimum of 25) for $5 each and sell them for $8 (typically). This is for bands who are confident that they can sell their ticket and who wish to make the maximum return. It is similar to option two, except that the band will make $3 per ticket sold.
WHEN CONFIRMED: If options ONE or TWO are selected - Pick up your tickets within a one (1) week time frame, or make arrangements to have them picked up. VERY IMPORTANT!!! Immediately make arrangements to RECEIVE your tickets! We do send out reminders but if you ignore them, you will be DROPPED FROM THE SHOW and your chances of being re-booked are decreased significantly.
DO NOT book an ALL AGES show within 3 weeks in a radius of 30 miles of The Emerson. If you ignore this rule, especially when double booking at The Emerson, you may lose both shows. In either case, you will be obligated to play the show you booked first, regardless of the importance of the second show. You have to option to buy out of the first show, however, just as with any contract/agreement.
Please have all your money togetherAT TIME OF LOAD IN. If you are meeting people to sell them tickets, have them meet you outside the venue before you check in.
Load in time is 4:30 PM UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE
DO NOT BE LATE. We reserve the right cancel you and reject all of your tickets - and you will still owe for tickets sold. I'm pretty easy to work with though, communicate with me and we should be okay.
ORDER OF PLAY - In most cases, on all local shows like these, order is determined by ticket sales. The band with the most sales will get their pick of timeslot. The band with the second most gets second pick... and so on.
GUEST LISTS: If your band sells ten (10) tickets, you get two (2) guests. This includes merch people. A guest is defined as anyone NOT an on-stage performer for at least 80% of the set. After 25 sold, you get an additional guest. Thereafter, you get another guest for each ten (10) sold. VERY IMPORTANT - If you sell less than ten (10) tickets, you get zero (0) guests.
KEEP IN MIND: This is your path to opening for NATIONAL ACTS. But please do not ask me to be put on a show like that until you can demonstrate CONSISTENT ticket sales of 30+ per show.
Your tickets will not be printed until you've confirmed. Once you
confirm, if you cancel, you will be charged a fee of $3.00.
You get booked on an agreed date
Tickets are issued to you, for which you are FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE
You sell as many as you can
Day of show, you pay me for the sold tickets and return ALL unsold tickets to me
I pay you based on the scale
You rock out and many groupies come home with you.
